Undoubtedly, every person who has ever met Rhysand comes to a turning point in their relationship wherein they discover he is not quite as much of an asshole as he presents. That is to say — even upon first meeting of Rhysand in the novels, what you're first seeing is ultimately a protective mask of jerkiness. It stands to say then, that there are two different facets of Rhysand as a whole, the first being his outward cruel and petty appearance, and then the internalized reason why he makes himself out to be such a monster. The following personality section will reflect both aspects of his personality and will, at times, likely seem contrary to each other, and even contradict on several points. It's all by Rhysand's own design, which leads to the first trait.
( - ) sneaky, lying, bastard — The lows that Rhysand will sink to in order to convince someone of his cold-hearted facade are really quite deranged, if you think about it. One of the first interactions you see of him in the book series ( through Feyre's POV ) is of him demanding a fellow High Lord get on his knees and beg for his mercy. "Drama queen" could, on it's own, be another personality trait altogether, but from this interaction alone we learn two truths of Rhysand — one, that he is a talented liar and manipulator who has learned through various trauma in his life to hone that particular skill, and two that he does take some amount of joy in peoples suffering. He is not completely morally black and white, and lives in a pocket of gray, where torture and humiliation are all fine when they're deserved.
( - ) undeniably arrogant — The extent of Rhysand's ego can really not be overstated. No one thinks more highly of him than himself. Of course, it's a definite benefit to know the extent of his own worth, which also really can't be overstated ( he is, after all, the handsome love interest in a YA novel ) but there's really not a humble bone in Rhysand's body. He leans on the side of expecting greatness from himself, with an ego too fragile to handle failure of any kind. Not the kind to break down because of a loss, however, he instead takes it as a personal affront. Ultimately, he ties too much of his worth to his successes, which gives him a gaping weakness when things don't go as according to his plans.
( - ) "if i can't do it myself, it's not getting done" / martyr kink — Rhysand's true character development over the course of the series is probably thus — learning that occasionally, not everything can be solved on his own terms, and outside help is necessary. In a grand scale it isn't that hard to chew, but for Rhysand the interpersonal sacrifices are where he comes up short. Asking a person to lay down their life for him or his cause is a slope he does his best to avoid altogether. In fact, the weight he'll take onto his own shoulders to avoid that ultimate end is a crippling reality that, in a war scenario, is oftentimes his undoing.
( + ) charitable, sensitive, overwhelming love for his people — The entirety of his dual personalities is based on one central point to him, which is his ultimate, final love of his people. He sacrificed his entire reputation and played the part of Amarantha's whore for fifty years under the mountain, in order to keep his secret city safe — this not only shows the true bottomless depths of Rhysand's selflessness, but also his drive towards seeing his people prosper. Ultimately, Rhys fights and campaigns for a peaceful future for the entirety of the world, unbothered by the prejudices that otherwise overwhelm Prythian. From that angle, you could also say Rhysand is a very understanding individual, capable of stripping away any bias he has in the face of a problem to find a more fair ( or, not fair but rewarding ) outcome.
( + ) emotional maturity — Given his long life, there's the expectation that, at some point, Rhys has gone through some invariably dark patches. True enough, his time serving under Amarantha was fifty years, which is Fae terms is a fairly short amount of time — it's still a trauma that Rhysand has to live with and is shown struggling with throughout the books. Despite that and other pains, Rhys manages a kind of emotional strength in getting by that reflects a certain optimism in him. Not that he's ignorant really, but in spite of all the pain he's lived through and even caused, he still believes a better world is not only possible, but necessary. In this he refuses to bow or bend, regardless of how his emotions are beaten to submission. Rhysand is someone not broken so easily.
Suitability:
Rhys has an interesting relationship with sexuality and intimacy — while he has been the subject to sexual abuse in his time Under the Mountain, he craves physicality with people on a level even he doesn't really understand, due to a lack of it in his upbringing and throughout his life. He is tethered to Feyre through their mating bond, though Feyre has not yet accepted it at his canon point, which means he's somewhat desperate for all the intimacy he can get at the moment. Beyond that, Faeries are naturally very sexually free, so he won't be at all scandalized by the way of the land. Mostly, he'll have difficulty adapting to things like electricity and texting.
Condition upon arrival: He is healthy and fine!! No wounds to speak of, unless bruised egos count.
Abilities:
First and foremost, Rhysand is not a human man — his father was the High Lord of the Night Court, and his mother was an Illyrian female, which makes him a little bit of both. High Fae have a few perks implied with their body's chemistry, including heightened senses and longer lifespans, along with a generic kind of magic ( he can levitate things, and use some minor healing on broken bones and the like ) but the more interesting half of him is Illyrian — a violent race of not-quite Fae people with bat wings. Given Rhysand's half-Illyrian blood, he can magic his wings in and out of existence. Physically, those are his differences, now onto his actual powers.
illyrian warrior — trained as a full blooded Illyrian, Rhysand is considered an exceptionally talented warrior and soldier, above and beyond your average Illyrian warrior, due to his passage in the Blood Rite with his two Bros.
high lord — claimed to be the most powerful High Lord in known history, Rhysand inherited his father's Shadow abilities as a genetic trait through the Night Court's familial bonds. he can control them, turn them into physical blows, manipulate them to his heart's content.
daemati — he has the ability to control and read minds. there's a plethora of skill implied there, but mostly he has the talent to ( on weaker minds ) manipulate memories, read thoughts, and communicate telepathically. he's also shown that he can take someone's pain away, through the receptors in their mind.
winnow — a talent most High Lords have — winnowing is just short range teleportation.
misting — another, but rarer talent for High Lords. with a snap of his fingers he can turn creatures and objects into mist, effectively killing them/dissolving them to nothing. it takes a lot of energy for him to do it, so it’s not something he can maintain for huge groups/for a length of time.
contracts — in the Night Court contracts are binding, and solidified by marks on the skin that magically develop. basically, a deal with Rhysand results in a tattoo marking them.
pocket dimension — Rhysand has access to a pocket dimension at the wave of his hands, where he puts a bunch of junk. he can also magic away the dirt on people's skin, which I think is related to this.
Inventory: a set of illyrian leathers, two illyrian swords.
Gembond: Ruby
Gem Location: the middle of his chest.
